Modern testing for modern stacks

We have gotten into the habit of thinking deeper about one topic on a weekly basis. We pick topics based on anything interesting we read - so the topics can range from 'how to express the value of testing' to 'Dieter Rams' design principles' to 'effective remote work habits'. Employees are guided to spend no more than one hour researching the topic online. The emphasis is on coming up with their own ideas and interpretations. We then meet as a group to exchange ideas. I love this habit and consider it one of the more unique benefits you will enjoy at Qxf2.

03-Oct-2017

This topic is Interesting take. Doing the work is only half your job. The other half is to communicate it well.

Our thoughts

Creative and productive individuals don't easily combine to form creative and productive teams. I feel this is true. I too have observed this. In case if the team doesn't gell out well the overall productivity decreases. Sometimes we need to take to account these factors while forming teams too. As the author says one main part of a successful team is good communication among its members. Sometimes we focus whole time in work and rarely communicate it which will cause problems. I too sometimes focus on the task and don't spend enough time in communicating it well. But working with a team this is very important factor to be considered.

I agree with the author, we do things but we often ignore or overlook to tell people what we did. Telling people what you did is as important as doing that work itself. At times we get so busy in getting work done that we don't take the time to communicate our work with our peers or colleguaes. We wrongly assume that other people will know about our work. But the fact is everyone is busy with their tasks so they will have very little sense of what you are doing. I feel visibility is the vital key and it is individual responsibity to showcase the work otherwise you see a disconnect between your performance and your job outcome.

Workplace communication is very important to companies because it allows companies to be productive and operate effectively. Employees can experience an increase in morale, productivity and commitment if they are able to communicate up and down the communication chain in an organization.Effective workplace communication is a skill we all need to master. The most creative ideas are not going to come while sitting in front of your monitor.some of the best decisions and insights come from hallway and cafeteria discussions.Communication flow is very important to workers. Employees have to feel secure that they are receiving truthful and updated information from superiors. They also want to have the ability to share ideas, thoughts and concerns within the company. Studies have shown that even after a layoff, companies that have excellent communication are able to retain the surviving employees.

It's a simple article which talks well about how important it is to communicate your job. I agree that if you silent, others wouldnt get to know that you have completed your task. I like that he's mentioned that creativity should be allowed and this happens only when people are not neck deep into their work. I like that we write blogs in Qxf2 which brings in creativity from us. Creativity should be emphasized or else people will just do their given tasks.

A nice article that emphasizing the difference between a coder and a developer. Completeing ones work is just one half of anyone's work, communicating it properly is the other half. The issue with communication is that the message being communicated has to change with the person to whom you are trying to communicate with. Communication is a major impediment to large teams. Adding people to a problem only complicates it as now the communication involved between the people in the team is more.

I completely agree with the author on,Half of your job is doing your work, the other half of your job is communicating that it is been done. When we work as a team together on complex systems it gives clear ideas to each other about next steps.
